International audienceThe rural-urban migration in Mexico and the international feminized migration from the Philippines result in a reconfiguration of gendered roles in the family : in both cases, women acquire financial autonomy, which emphasizes the destabilization of masculine roles their partners refer to. Crossing data from two studies of migratory movements in Mexico and the Philippines, this research note shows that Mexican and Filipino men adopt similar strategies to revalorize their place in their family and society : earning money through work (by migrating to the United States or staying the Philippines, respectively), obtaining the support of their wife, and fulfilling their father role.
