The purpose of this thesis is to discern if and how literary works written in two different languages, by writers coming from the same culture, exhibit the same perspectives in regard to identity. It seeks to know especially, whether or not their mode of writing is fundamentally different. The literary text is viewed as an intertexte, that is, a text resulting from the intersection of other texts, being mainly here, Somali oral literature and the British and French colonial literature. It is also assumed that the reader plays an important role in the formation of the text.
