Potentialités agronomiques et peuplement antique en Languedoc oriental : l'apport des ressources de la télédétection satellitaire

International audienceIn order to study the role of agricultural potential in the evolution of settlement patterns during the Roman period, this project establishes an archaeological approach to characterize the environment. This study is particularly interested in classifying terrains regarding their relative dryness or wetness by using medium resolution remote sensing (Landsat). This type of approach orients the study towards reflections on ancient land improvements, and leads us to a number of questions on the subject of human-environment interactions. These questions are presented using two examples, connecting modelling of the terroirs, settlement pattern, and morphology of the field systemsÉtudier le rôle qu’ont pu jouer les potentialités agronomiques des terres dans l’évolution du peuplement antique nécessite une approche archéologique des écosystèmes exploités.
