Lacan makes Socrate the historical antecedent of the psychoanalyst. In his seminar about the transfer, he bases on Plato's Symposium to demonstrate how Socrate makes a maneuver worthy of an analyst: when Alcibiade declares his love to him, he send him back to Agathon. Thus, we can say that the "interpretation" of Socrates reveals the true object of Alcibiade's desire, proving to him that it takes three to love: such is the Socratic ethics.
