Le patrimoine mondial catalyseur de l'attachement au territoire ? Le cas de la Cité épiscopale d'Albi, inscrite sur la Liste du Patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO

International audienceThe purpose of this presentation is to examine in what ways the enhancement of local heritage through an international tool can create attachment to the territory. The inclusion of the Episcopal City of Albi (Tarn) on UNESCO’s list of world heritage in 2010 has been a trigger for several consultative and participative initiatives including the inhabitants. However, the survey carried out on 1,825 inhabitants and the 16 interviews held with dwellers from the Episcopal City reveal that, although the local population is expressing its enthusiasm toward this recognition, the sense of belonging to the city is unequal. The social economic characteristics of the residents and their habits have to be considered to understand their connection to the territory. It appears that the heritage aspect of the territory, even when recognized internationally, is mobilized in an ambivalent way.Cette communication propose d’interroger de quelle manière la valorisation d’un patrimoine local par le biais d’un dispositif international produit de l’attachement au territoire. L’inscription de la Cité épiscopale d’Albi (Tarn) au Patrimoine mondial de l’humanité en 2010 a été un levier pour plusieurs initiatives de concertation et de participation des habitants. Pourtant, l’enquête par questionnaires administrés auprès de 1 825 résidents et les 16 entretiens menés avec des habitants de la Cité épiscopale révèlent que la population locale, si elle dit son enthousiasme à l’égard de cette reconnaissance, exprime inégalement un sentiment d’appartenance à la ville. Les caractéristiques socio-économiques des résidents et leurs pratiques entrent en compte pour comprendre le rapport entretenu au territoire. Il en ressort que la qualité patrimoniale du territoire, même lorsqu’elle est reconnue internationalement, est un critère mobilisé de manière ambivalente
