The French upstream catchment of the Scheldt river consists of hight-land (chalky plateaux) and a low-land (sandy and clayed hills and low plains). It is characterized by the absence of major river and (in the low country) by continuous Quaternary sedimentary cover and gentle slopes. The Quaternary fill of the valley bottom is relatively little studied despite the interest of the records. These can be classified into three groups: Pleniglacial Weichselian deposits, anterior ones or subsequent ones.Among the deposits anterior to the Pleniglacial, we distinguish the Early Glacial ones from older ones.
