Jonathan Kozol is one of the country\u27s leading advocates for poor children. Born in Boston, he graduated from Harvard and received a Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford. Kozol began his career as an educator, but he always combined teaching with activism, designing and helping to initiate adult literacy programs that served as models for many others. He also founded The Fund for the Homeless, a nonprofit organization that provides homeless families and their children with emergency assistance
