The Politics of Law is a collection of essays from the Critical Legal Studies movement. The essential tenets of this movement include: (1) a rejection of the idea that a distinctly legal mode of reasoning exists; (2) a belief that democratic processes lend a false legitimacy to existing social and economic relations; (3) the assertion that law and the state embody values that prevent their neutrality; and (4) the view that law is an important tool in legitimizing the existing social system. In this review, Professor Deutsch offers a critical analysis of the ideological role of law in American society as an alternative to the essays in The Politics of Law
