Small amts. of dyes and alkaloids in Cu sulfate baths modify the growth habits of Cu and alter the cathodic polarization. At a given c.d. in the presence of benzopurpurin, Diamine Green, and sulfone cyanine, a transition is obsd. from layer-type to ridge-type growth and from ridge-type to pyramidal-type growth. In the presence of chrysoidine, strychnine sulfate and quinine sulfate, layers change completely to pyramids and blocks at corresponding c.ds. The process mechanism in the presence of these addn. agents is detd. from current-potential curves. The obsd. effects are caused by complex formation and additive adsorption by the substrate
