A simple, rapid, and efficient method has been developed for the synthesis of acylals from aldehydes using acetic anhydride in the presence of a catalytic amount p-TSA at 25°C, and the deprotection of acylals using water and catalytic p-TSA under microwave irradiation has been achieved in excellent yields.
