Hematological Studies and the Anticancer Effects of Natural Health Compounds

The main focus of the research is to explore the efficacy and anticancer effects of natural health compounds towards leukemia and lymphoma cancers. The current pharmacological options available for treatment have been extensively studied and provide a framework for the continued development of our research; however, these synthetic alternatives often contain harsh immunotoxic side effects. Research into natural health compounds provide an opportunity to discover novel analogues capable of combating cancer effectively, without the unintended adverse effects of medication among the existing treatment options. Using predominantly hematological studies, healthy leukocytes are evaluated for cytotoxicity to the many different novel analogues tested in Pandey Lab, with the aim of discovering the ideal dose and concentrations of the drugs being studied. The ongoing research has led to the discovery of the novel analogs Pancratistatin and Curcumin which have both provided encouraging results for the continued development of natural health products and cancer treatment
