Many aryl bromides will undergo a palladium catalyzed cross-coupling reaction with 3- ((t-butyldimethylsilyl) oxymethyl) -4-(tri-n-butylstannyl)furan to form a new class of 3,4-disubstituted furans in excellent yields. The reaction is fast and easy to perform. It also represents an expansion of the scope of the cross-coupling reaction as it provides examples of rare aryl tin-aryl bromide couplings. Part 2: Lead tetraacetate oxidations of 2-(trialkylsilyl)furans.
