Web caching is a widely-used technique to reduce the workload of the web servers as well as the network latency. As the requests for dynamic and especially customized web pages is increasing dramatically, how to effectively cache dynamic and customized web pages has become an important issue that directly affects the scalability of the World Wide Web. Here we propose an improved caching technique to reduce the bandwidth consumption by assembling web pages at the proxy server. The main characteristic of our work is to enhance the capability of the HTTP proxy on processing the requests for customized web pages via the use of cookies.
