Forty-seven hot-rolled steel single angles (specified minimum yield stress = 300 MPa) loaded through a single 16 mm bolt on one leg were tested for their compressive resistance. All the connections were snug tight. Fifteen sizes were included in the investigation. Two gauge distances---maximum normal framing eccentricity and minimum edge distance, for each type of specimen were investigated. Out-of-straightness of each angle specimen was measured. The experimental failure loads are compared with loads obtained from a finite element model. The finite element problem has been solved for failure loads under geometric and material nonlinearity.
