Background. Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a growing health problem whose treatment is lifelong and expensive. Published report from elsewhere indicate that its incidence is fueled by changes in life style, HIV infection and antiretroviral treatments. Changes from a more active to sedentary life style, HIV infection and hence ART uses are also growing problems in our country. It is therefore important to determine the magnitude of contribution of each of these risk factors as predict ors of diabetes mellitus, we therefore aimed at determining odds of developing DM among HIV patients compared to dietary and life style preference as well as to determine the factors influence time to develop diabetes mellitus.
