Evaluation of brine shrimp lethality of chromatographic fractions of agathisathemum bojeri root

From previous study on the evaluation of cytotoxic activity of the aqueous methanolic extract of A. bojeri klozsch on HeLa cells showed that 10pg/ml inhibited proliferation by 58.33%. The aim of the present study was to fractionate the aqueous methanolic extract and test the different fractions pooled together for the brine shrimp lethality. Fractionation was performed using silica gel column chromatography - and the eluted fractions were spotted on TLC. Fractions which showed similar profile on TLC were pooled together, and a total of 2.0 fractions were obtained. The 20 fractions were tested using the brine shrimp lethality test for their activity. The results showed that fractions eluted using 90% CHCI3, 10% MeoH, 80% CHCl3; and 20% MeoH showed more activity with LC5a values of 43.98 and 40.75pg/mi respectively, while those eluted with 100% MeoH showed little activity with LCSO value of 462.76pg/ml.
