Fort Hogtown Marker, Gainesville, Fl. This marker is located in the public park on the corner of 34th street. The text on the marker reads as : Fort Hogtown During the Second Seminole War (1835-42), a settler´s fort was built at the Hogtown settlement near this site. Shortly before the onset of that war, men from the Hogtown settlement and from Spring Grove, a community located about four miles to the west, organized a volunteer company of mounted riflemen, the Spring Grove Guards. Spring Grove was at that time the seat of justice in Alachua county (1832-1839).
