Background: Approximately 20% of patients with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), a medical device that prevents sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) and mortality, score above a clinical cutoff on a screening measure for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms.
