Students with significant cognitive disabilities need to have access to the general curriculum. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 1997 and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 have made provisions to ensure that all students have the opportunity to participate and progress in the general curriculum, including students with significant cognitive disabilities. One way to promote access to the general curriculum for students with significant cognitive disabilities is through Universal Design for Learning(UDL).
