If a child is unable to adjust to the loss experience, he or she may be more vulnerable to emotional difficulties as an adult. The purpose of this research was to assess the long-term effects of childhood parental loss in adulthood. Specifically, persons who experienced parental death or parental divorce were compared with persons who did not experience parental loss.
