Self-esteem, as used and interpreted by teachers

Includes bibliographical references (pages [93]-95)The purpose of this study was to provide information regarding self-esteem from both literature and from the discourse of teachers. A questionnaire along with two follow-up questions were given to these teachers in order for them to express their opinions on the concept of self-esteem. The thirteen teachers chosen for this project were from a suburban elementary school. Each grade level 1-5 is presented in this study. The research questions that were used in this study were: 1. What is the meaning attributed to "self-esteem" by educational professionals? 2. How is practice informed by the understanding of self-esteem that several teachers in a selected elementary school have? 3. What are some implications of these findings for educators and further research? These questions will be answered throughout the study. These questions will be looked at from a literary viewpoint and from the viewpoint of each teacher in the study. These answers will then be analyzed and interpreted so that they may lead to further studies on the topic of self-esteem.M.S. Ed. (Master of Education
