A descriptive and historical bibliography of John Day's West Saxon Gospels of 1571

Includes bibliographical references (pages [45]-47)The publication of this text in 1571 marked a printing event which had significance in its relation to the social and religious changes which occurred under the reign of Queen Elizabeth. This paper attempts to provide the first comprehensive historical and descriptive bibliography on this text. It is divided into two parts. The first is a description of the West Saxon Gospels based upon the model used in the Pittsburgh Series of Bibliography. In addition, Part One contains a series of notes on the particular irregularities and glosses found in this copy, as well as a synthesis of prior research. Part Two explores possible socio-political motivations for the publication, and considers the question of its influence.M.A. (Master of Arts
