Cette thèse examine le rôle structurant du timbre à partir du répertoire pianistique de la première moitié du dix-neuvième siècle, période exploratoire où le timbre, composé multidimensionnel, occupe une place centrale. Fondée sur une conception architectonique et organique de la forme, elle convoque l’acoustique et la psychologie, dans une perspective transdisciplinaire. Le rapport entre timbre et langage se fonde sur les ressources timbriques de l’écriture. Ce matériau aux fortes potentialités structurales est modélisé par des facteurs pianistiques et texturaux en interaction.
