This study aimed to conduct an analysis based on a survey performed in 4 municipalities which investigated social isolation among elderly persons living alone. This study was conducted as collaborative research between the Minami-Nippon Shimbun and International University of Kagoshima in September 2011, and obtained sample data from 1,000 cases with the support of local welfare staff members. Particularly, I focus on the difference between depopulated areas and remote islands about their ideas
