Noninvasive evaluation of the prosthetic valve function remains a clinical challenge. Earlier noninvasive technlques were of limited success because of their inability to provide hemodynamic inforrnation. However, recently developed continuous wave Doppler echocardiography has enabled us to determine transvalvular pressure gradients.
