Abstract The purpose of this study is to understand the contextual nature of launching industrial new products. Therefore, the launch drivers, challenges, and launch processes are examined here in two remarkably different industrial contexts. The importance of the launch for new product success has been acknowledged and the formulation of a successful launch strategy is broadly addressed in the previous launch research. However, the launch activities and the variety of industrial launch contexts have been less frequently studied.
