Abstract Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is a major medical and public health concern responsible for 50% of cardiovascular deaths and as much as 15% to 20% of overall mortality. Coronary heart disease is the underlying cause of most of these deaths, and in 50% of such cases, SCD is the first manifestation of the disease. Researchers have investigated numerous noninvasive methods to more accurately identify individuals at high risk of SCD, but most such studies have focused on patients with specific heart disease.
