Abstract In this thesis electronic structure and the dynamics of selected rare gases were investigated. Auger electron and ion spectroscopies were employed in the studies for the de-excitation processes of an inner-shell vacancy excited by synchrotron radiation. The collected spectra were analyzed by combining information from the Auger spectra created with different excitation methods and from theoretical calculations. The effects of electron correlation on the Auger spectra were emphasized in the studies
