Abstract Early recognition of schizophrenia could lead to a better clinical course and a better prognosis. Therefore, researchers have started to investigate the possible vulnerability markers of schizophrenia. Both genetic and environmental factors have been found to be essential in the understanding of the development of psychiatric disorders. The present study is part of an extensive Finnish adoptive family study of schizophrenia.
