Pētnieciskajā darbā tiek pētīta moderna angļu valodas mācību grāmata, analizējot tās saturu no pragmatikas zinātnes viedokļa. Teorētiskajā daļā aplūkota pragmatikas nozare kā praktiskās valodniecības nozīmīga daļa, kā arī pragmatikas kompetence kā viena no komunikatīvās kompetences sastāvdaļām. Dotā pētījuma mērķis ir pierādīt, ka skolēnu kompetenci pragmatikā ir iespējams attīstīt, izmantojot modernu angļu valodas mācību grāmatu. Teorija ar praksi pētījumā tiek sasaistīta, meklējot pragmatikas aspektus saturošas pazīmes mācību grāmatas Rakstu uzdevumu sadaļā, izmantojot Veidlapu ar pārbaudes kritēriju sarakstu.
