The effects of two natural frozen diets (sardine and freshwater crayfish) and two artificial diets on growth and survival of juvenile cuttlefish (S. officinalis) were tested, compared to a control diet (frozen shrimp). The experiment was planned for 8 weeks. During the first two weeks, cuttlefish grew significantly larger with the control diet. The two natural diets promoted intermediate growth, significantly lower compared to the control, while the two artificial diets promoted negative growth. Food intake was high for the three natural diets (close to 10% body weight d-1), but low for the artificial diets (<3% body weight d-1)
