Promocijas darba mērķis bija noskaidrot mildronāta terapijas neirotropos efektus un izpētīt šo efektu regulācijas molekulāros mehānismus saistībā ar Lkarnitīnu. Rezultāti liecina, ka pēc hroniskas mildronāta ievadīšanas samazinās karnitīna koncentrācija žurku asins plazmā, sēklinieku un smadzeņu audos. Hroniska mildronāta ievadīšana uzlaboja žurku tēviņu seksuālo funkciju un neiroloģisko funkciju atjaunošanos pēc insulta. Akūta mildronāta ievadīšana dzīvniekiem izraisīja pretkrampju un antihipnotiskus efektus, kas tiek regulēti caur slāpekļa oksīda un adrenerģisko signālceļiem, un samazināja asinsrites traucējumus pēc a.carota communis oklūzijas.
