A novel pregnane glycoside, biondianoside E, was isolated from the roots of Biondia chinensis. By the spectroscopic and chemical methods, this structure was elucidated as 30, 50, 14beta, 20S, 21-pentahydroxypregnane 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->4)-beta-D-cymaropyranoside
