The goal of this thesis was the implementation and simulation of the IEEE 802.16 OFDM PHY layer using MATLAB as a simulation methodology to investigate the PHY layer performance under reference channel model, Stanford University Interim (SUI). The implemented PHY layer supports different modulation types, BPSK, QPSK, 16QAM, 64QAM with different rates as defined in the specification of IEEE 802.16 standard. Channel coding in down- link was done by Forward Error Correction which was implemented by concatenated Reed Solomon encoder-Convolutional encoder, the FEC is thenconnected to an interleaver.In the up-link FEC decoding plus deinterleaving process was done.
