Studies On Caprine Brucellosis In Nyala Area

Serological and bacteriological studies on caprine brucellosis were carried out to determine the prevalence of the disease in goats in Nyala area, South Darfur State, Western Sudan. Milk Ring Test (MRT), Rose Bengal Plate Test (RBPT), Serum Agglutination Test (SAT) and trials to demonstrate and isolate Brucella organisms were made for the diagnosis of the disease. A total of 4961 samples (3569 serum.1282 milk, 86 lymph nodes, 22 vaginal swabs and two foetal stomach contents) were examined. Out of the 3569 serum samples tested using RBPT, eleven samples (0.3%) showed positive results for Brucella antibodies. The SAT showed (0.25%) with different values of titers (160 I.U at 1: 80 dilutions. 372 I.U at 1: 160 dilutions. 640 I.U at 1: 320 dilutions; and 1488 I.U at 1: 1640 dilutions). Of the 1282 milk samples tested by the MRT thirty-eight (2.96%) were positivity. Most positive cases were found in abattoirs and markets specialized in goat marketing (Table 7). No Brucella organisms were isolated or demonstrated in the samples examined
