Pattern and Early Outcome of Heart Diseases among Pregnant Sudanese Females Khartoum Teaching Hospital

A total of 50 consecutive pregnant ladies with cardiac symptoms who were admitted to Khartoum Teaching Hospital (KTH) in the period from January 2004 to July 2004 were studied. The data were collected through a questionnaire containing detailed medical history thorough physical examination and specific laboratory investigations. The aim of the study is to determine the different patterns of cardiac diseases among pregnant Sudanese ladies and their outcome. The commonest pattern noticed was Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) 20(40%) patient, Post partum cardio myopathy (PPCM) 12 patient (24%), congenital heart disease (CHD) 3 patients (6%) anaemic heart failure 4 patients (8%), pulmonary embolism 2 patients (4%), 1 patient (2 %) hypertrophic obstructive cardio myopathy (HOCM). Primary pulmonary hypertension 1 patient (2%), 2 patients supra ventricular tachycardia (S.V.T), 1 patients (2%) Marfan's syndrome. 3 patients (6%) had hypertensive heat disease. The outcome of the study as follows: 36 (72%) patients they developed congestive heart failure (CHF) 4 (8%) patients died 7 (14%) patients survived requiring no treatment 3 (6%) patients developed cerebro vascular accidents (CVA)
