This study was aimed at isolation and identification of the aerobic bacteria associated with soil and water contaminated by oil and oil derivatives. Also, their ability to grow in medium of the crude oil salt-mineral agar as sole source of carbon as well as their potentiality to degrade the contaminated environments with hydrocarbons were studied. Total of 40 soil and water samples were collected from different areas in Khartoum State in the period between Jul. 2002 and Sept.2002.
