The Role of Non Government al Organiztions in promoting environmental health in displaced camps in Khartoum state

This study was conducted in displaced camps in Khartoum state, from 2002 to 2004, The study aimed to evaluate the role of nongovernmental organizations in all camps around the state and specifically to evaluate the out comes and impacts of their activities with regard to health and environment. Also we tried to determine the NGOs priorities in the environmental health field, In addition to, identify the effect of cooperation and coordination between (NGOs +NGOs) & NGOs + government), and other specific objectives. Observations, interviews with health authorities and community leaders, moreover, questionnaires among the displaced persons were the main methods of data collection. The study talked about all aspects of the life in displaced camps such as, sanitation, water quality and quantity, food hygiene, domestic waste and human excreta disposal, health education, educational programs, general hygiene , drainage system….etc . The results revealed that the rate of new comers is very high (65.6%) comparing with the services available at the present, it was found that all camps are breeding sites for mosquito, flies and other insects
