Proportion and Risk Factors of Pneumonia among Children Under 5 years in Omdurman Hospital

Pneumonia is an infectious disease of the lungs. Many different organisms can cause pneumonia, including bacteria, viruses, and Fungi (1). Pneumonia is the leading cause of death among acute respiratory infections, killing up to five million children under 5 years annually in developing countries. Every year 12 million children die before their fifth birthday, and during the first year of life (2). In Sudan, 50% of out - patients are children under 5 years, and 30% of hospital admissions are attributed to pneumonia (3)
