Epidemiology of Malaria among Children in Omdurman Military Residential Area

A community based study was conducted in Omdurman Military residential area . the objective was to study the epidemiology of malaria among children in Omduraman Military Residential Area and to investigate the socio- economic and the environmental risk factors involved . The study was conducted over a month from 2 -31 May 2006 . The population sample for the study was 504 children under16 years, They were randomly selected out of 814 houses during one month. The results revealed a high malaria prevalence , a total 84 ( 16.7% ) children were found positive for malaria The higher infestation (33.2%) is observed among age group over 14 years . The age group 0- 4 years comes next (17.6% ) followed by age group 9-14 years (16.4% ) then 5-8 years age group . A higher malaria prevalence of 43 ( 17.3% ) is observed among females. The majority of house holds income per month is more than 40.000 SD ( 18.7% ), malaria prevalence was common among their children . The infestation increased among those with no vector breeding sites around , or inside their houses ( 16.7% ) and room are not regularly sprayed (16.3% )
