Effects of Crop Sequence on Yield and Yield Components of Irrigated Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) in Vertisols of Central SudanPRIVATE

Page(s): 9 (1), 19-28,8 RefThe purpose of this study was to find out the best preceding crop for irrigated groundnut so that an appropriate crop rotation can be adopted for the irrigated schemes. Twelve treatments were used, i.e. eleven crops and a bare fallow preceded groundnut. Wheat, cotton, sorghum and maize were better precursors to groundnut than were legumes. Sparse plant population of groundnut after leguminous crops resulted in poor establishment and consequently poor yield. Yield components were also affected by the preceding crop; and seeds per pod, 100-seed weight and shelling percentage were positively and significantly correlated with pod yield.Khartoum University Pres
