Liver disease is a leading cause of mortality in the United States resulting in over 30,000 deaths annually. Allogenic liver transplantation represents the treatment of choice for end-stage liver failure, but the shortage of viable donor livers, the need for immunosuppressive drugs, and high cost are all limiting factors.
