Regional lung ventilation is modulated by the spatiotemporal distribution of alveolar distending forces. During positive-pressure ventilation, regional transmission of airway pressure (Paw) to the pleural surface may vary with ventilatory frequency (f), thus changing interregional airflow distribution.
