The class of proteins known as immunophilins, that are cis-trans prolyl isomerases perform diverse chaperone roles. The immunophilins FKBP52 and FKBP51 (FK506 Binding Proteins) are adapter proteins involved in the trafficking of the glucocorticoid receptor (GR), in which FKBP52 facilitates binding of retrograde molecular motor protein dynein and the GR, while FKBP51 binds only the GR.
