New sequencing technologies have revolutionized the acquisition of molecular data by increasing the amount of sequences at a considerably lower cost. These new technologies have also given access to samples previously neglected because they resulted in low-quantity and degraded DNA yields, as for example, old tissues, museum specimens and even fossil rests. An additional advantage comes from the possibility of multiplexing; this is, mixing several taxa in a single sample thanks to the use of tags or labels allowing late separating the sequences using bioinformatic tools.
