Root Cause worked with an independent research firm to conduct qualitative and quantitative surveys of more than 200 donors who advised on grants from a donor-advised fund with Fidelity Charitable, an independent public charity with a donor-advised fund program. The report focuses on a subset of responders to the survey -- the 71 percent who reported they regularly (6 percent) or sometimes (65 percent) give to new social causes -- complex issues such as homelessness -- or nonprofits each year, as opposed to simply giving to the same organizations every year
