The elastic scattering of $pi$$sup +$ from $sup 12$C has been investigated at 50 MeV. The angular distribution is compared with theoretical predictions using free $pi$-N phase shifts in three potentials: the Kisslinger potential, the local Laplacian potential, and a separable potential. It is concluded that simple K and LL models are inadequate for a description of $pi$ elastic scattering at low energy. (2 tables, 7 figures) (SDF
