The authors discuss the problem of transforming muon beam bunches from a low-energy cooled state (E{sub {mu}} {approximately} 1 GeV) to short, high-energy bunches matched to high-energy collision conditions (E{sub {mu}} {approximately} 2 TeV). In this process the beam energy must increase by {approximately} three orders of magnitude, while the bunch length must be reduced by {approximately} two orders of magnitude (to {approximately} 3mm), while beam emittance dilution and beam losses, particularly through decay, must be minimized.
