A concept for an advanced coal-fired combined-cycle power generating system is currently being developed. The first phase of this three-phase program consists of conducting the necessary research and development to define the system, evaluating the economic and technical feasibility of the concept, and preparing an R and D plan to develop the concept further. The power generating system being developed in this project will be an improvement over current coal-fired systems. Goals have been specified that relate to the efficiency, emissions, costs, and general operation of the system. These goals are: total station efficiency of at least 47%; no more than: 0.15 lb NO{sub x}/10{sup 6} Btu fuel heat input, 0.15 lb SO{sub x}/10{sup 6} Btu fuel h...
