Specimens from malignant lymphoma and leukemia cases were analysed by im- munohistochemistry and Southern blot analysis. Monoclonal antibodies against B or T lymphocytes were used to determine their phenotype, and probes against JH, Cx, Cl and C/J2, J<Sl, Jc?2 were used to detect the gene rearrangement of immunoglobulin (Ig) and T cell receptors (TCR), respectively. Cases which did not express any cell lineage specific antigens were also diagnosed by detection of the gene rearrangement band of Ig or TCR by Southern blot analysis. Three cases showed both Ig and TCR gene rearrangement with either a B or T cell phenotype.
